Tooth Sensitivity

What is Tooth Sensitivity?

Experiencing discomfort or pain when consuming hot, cold, sweet, or acidic foods and drinks? If this sounds like you, you may have tooth sensitivity. A common dental condition, tooth sensitivity occurs when the underlying dentin layer of the tooth becomes exposed. Dentin is a porous material that contains microscopic tubules leading to the nerve centre of the tooth. When dentin is exposed, stimuli such as hot, cold, sweet, or acidic foods and drinks can travel through these tubules, triggering nerve pain and discomfort.

At Este Medical, our tooth sensitivity treatment in Turkey addresses the underlying causes of the condition to provide relief from discomfort and help you enjoy your favourite food and drink once again.

What Causes Tooth Sensitivity?

Tooth sensitivity is caused by various factors that lead to the exposure of the underlying dentin layer of the tooth. Some these factors include:

1. Enamel Erosion

The erosion of tooth enamel, often due to acidic foods and drinks, brushing too hard, or acid reflux, can wear away the protective outer layer of the tooth and expose the dentin underneath.

2. Gum Recession

Gum recession occurs when the gum tissue surrounding the teeth pulls back or wears away to expose the roots of the teeth. Since the roots do not have the protective enamel covering that the crowns of the teeth have, they are more susceptible to sensitivity.

3. Tooth Decay

Cavities or tooth decay near the gumline can lead to sensitivity as they compromise the integrity of the tooth structure and expose the dentin layer to external stimuli.

4. Bruxism (Teeth Grinding

Chronic teeth grinding or clenching, a condition known as bruxism, can wear down the enamel of the teeth over time and make them more prone to sensitivity.

5. Cracked or Fractured Teeth

Cracks or fractures in the teeth can expose the dentin layer, leading to sensitivity, especially when chewing or biting down on food.
