Are Dental Implants Painful? Este Turkey Dentists Give Expert Advice

Published:

September 1, 2023

Dental Implants make it possible to have natural-looking teeth and a wonderful smile again. Implant surgery is an excellent option to restore damaged or missing teeth. If you leave broken teeth untreated, it can have a bad effect on your oral and physical health.

When it comes to your appearance, missing teeth can cause the face to lose volume and the lips to collapse into your mouth, making you look older than you are. Implants are one of the best long-term solutions for tooth replacement.

Este Medical in Turkey offers dental implants and other cosmetic dentistry procedures. Take a look at our incredible dental implant before and after photos to see for yourself how dental implants can transform your appearance for the better!

How Bad Do Dental Implants Hurt?

The number one concern most people have about this type of dental surgery is if dental implants hurt. It is natural to be concerned about pain when it comes to any type of surgery. We have asked our Este Turkey dentists to share their professional advice on implants painful feedback, and how pain is managed during and after having dental implants.

Dental Implant Procedure Pain & Surgery Aftercare

How painful is getting a dental implant? Let us help you answer that question. Like with most dental procedures that are invasive, a local anesthesia will be administered to numb the nerves in the treatment area — the tissue around the dental implant area will be numbed during surgery, so you will not feel any pain.

During dental implant surgery you may have the sensation of pressure in the mouth and jaw area, as well you may feel bodily vibrations from the drill, when holes for the implant are made in the bone. These sensations are not considered painful

Once the numbing effects of the anesthesia are over, you may feel some discomfort in the mouth area for a few days; the surgery area may feel sore, but it should not stop you from going about your daily routine, as long as your schedule is not too strenuous or demanding. You might be advised by your dentist to take an oral pain medication for a couple of days.

Normal and common dental implant side effects include:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Jaw stiffness
  • Slight numbness or tingling

After dental implant surgery if you experience sinus problems, bleeding, extreme tingling in your natural teeth and gums, or infection, you should contact your primary dentist immediately.

Dental Implant Surgery Aftercare Tips

After you have Turkey dental implant surgery you should follow the aftercare direction of the clinic dentist. Here is common sense advice most dental surgeons will recommend:

  • Avoid spitting or sucking through straws (no smoking!)
  • Do no use your teeth to open plastic packages or bottles
  • Eat soft foods like yogurt, stews and soup, pudding, and mashed foods like potatoes
  • Try not to eat sticky, hard, crunchy or spicy foods
  • Avoid strenuous physical activity
  • Return to your normal routine slowly

On average, it takes about 2 to 3 days to recover from having dental implants. You can speed up dental implant recovery time by doing the following:

  • Rest and relax
  • Keep hydrated, keep the mouth moist
  • Do a salt water mouth rinse to keep away infection
  • Keep up good oral hygiene practices
  • Eat soft and nutritious foods
  • Place ice packs on outside area of your face
  • Take pain medication as advised

Are Teeth Implants Painful?

Because dental implant surgery involves a small amount of physical manipulation to both the gums and the jaw, there will be some slight discomfort post-surgery. When people feel pain or discomfort from implant surgery, it is usually soft tissue discomfort. Most people do not experience pain from the implant hole made in the bone or from the placement of the implant because of local anesthesia, which will numb any pain during surgery.

The pain that patients feel when they get dental implant surgery is actually not from the hole made in the bone or the placement of the implant — the pain usually comes from the soft tissue manipulation that occurs during surgery.

The question of whether dental implants hurt will vary from person to person. In the majority of cases dental implants do not hurt; however, there may be some post-surgery discomfort, which is considered completely normal (e.g., swelling, jaw stiffness…).
